Those Crazy Chinese...

This is so funny! Remember, for it to be humorous, there must be a grain or two of truth in it...

Medical Update

Checked in with Dr. Lee today. Despite a small snafu with the blood draw (it expired, I forgot to get it done), all is well on the cancer front.

I came away with a few instructions from the good doctor, some of which may sound familiar:
  • Keep up with the Calcium, to REbuild my bones
  • Loose weight to relive my compression fractured back of any stress
  • Remain aware of the peripheral neuropathy in my fingers and (especially) toes
So, I am happy that I remain, the same.

I asked if my long term prognosis improves with time. For example, if you survived breast cancer five years ago, you are pretty much in the clear. Not so with Multiple Myeloma. Every day you play the lottery, and every day you loose (not get that 1:1,000,000,000 prize) you win.

Constantly hovering over my head is this inescapable fact: There is no cure.

At this moment, I am happy to be living in a cease-fire instant between my life and death battle with this monster.

And so, good news is: I am in pretty good shape -- but pear shape isn't what I should be.

Bad news is: As with all things, this is a fleeting moment that could vaporize with a bad result coming out of one of the eight vials of blood they took today.

Other than that, I had a nice day, sat outside with Mom and killed some time, had a Philly Cheese steak for lunch (hey - it has calcium rich cheese), and enjoyed a remarkable warm, sunny day.

California Vs. Texas

Great piece on California Vs. Texas... Never bet against Texas.

As a once proud third generation Californian, it hurts because it's true...

Put "business" (or anything else good) in the place of "dog" and you will know why the Golden State is turning to Fool's Gold.

I’ve already had a couple of blog posts commenting on how Texas is kicking California’s you-know-what. Being a fiscal policy person, I always point to California’s punitive state income tax as an example of bad policy and highlight the absence of any income tax in Texas to explain the success of that state.

But sometimes it’s just culture and attitude. Here’s a joke comparing the two states, but it’s based on something that actually happened in Texas.

CALIFORNIA: The Governor of California is jogging with his dog along a nature trail. A coyote jumps out, bites the Governor and attacks his dog.

1. The Governor starts to intervene, but reflects upon the movie “Bambi” and then realizes he should stop; the coyote is only doing what is natural.

2. He calls animal control. Animal Control captures the coyote and bills the State $200 testing it for diseases and $500 for relocating it.

3. He calls a veterinarian. The vet collects the dead dog and bills the State $200 for testing it for diseases.

4. The Governor goes to hospital and spends $3,500 getting checked for diseases from the coyote and on getting his bite wound bandaged.

5. The running trail gets shut down for 6 months while Fish & Game conducts a $100,000 survey to make sure the area is free of dangerous animals.

6. The Governor spends $50,000 in state funds to implement a “coyote awareness” program for residents of the area.

7. The State Legislature spends $2 million to study how to better treat rabies and how to permanently eradicate the disease throughout the world.

8. The Governor’s security agent is fired for not stopping the attack somehow and for letting the Governor attempt to intervene.

9. Additional cost to State of California: $75,000 to hire and train a new security agent with additional special training re: the nature of coyotes.

10. PETA protests the coyote’s relocation and files suit against the State.

TEXAS: The Governor of Texas is jogging with his dog along a nature trail. A Coyote jumps out, bites the Governor’s leather boot, and attacks his dog.

1. The Governor shoots the coyote with his State-issued pistol and keeps jogging. The Governor has spent $0.50 on a .45 ACP hollow
point cartridge.

2. The buzzards eat the dead coyote.

And that, boys and girls, is why California is broke………..And, more importantly, why too much government doesn’t work.

Addendum: Welcome Instapundit readers. A few people in the comments are looking for a response to Krugman’s attack on Texas. Kevin Williamson at National Review provides the answer.

Yep, the real party of hate...

It never surprises me to see these loons, and the crowd they hang out with, do what they do.

An exhaustive list of Democrat and other leftist hate speech (and actions) by Michelle Malkin.

Take some time to read and understand it.

Initial observations between my Palm Pre Plus and the new Droid 2

Old and busted: Palm Pre Plus on Verizon

New hotness: Motorola Droid 2

  • Droid is biger, it won't fit into a pocket.
  • Android has many more apps than WebOS
  • WebOS is a superior operating system
  • No problems with the Droid 2 keyboard yet
  • No touchstone charger for Droid 2
  • Droid 2 GPS works -- Pre plus doesn't (most of the time)
  • Droid 2 seems faster
The big things I liked about the Palm Pre were the charging system and the operating system. It was just that the damn hardware was lousy. Keyboard troubles, battery troubles, reliability troubles, wonky GPS, all kept me in fits. It was nice and slick, which meant that it slipped out of my (peripheral neuropathy) fingers easily. People stopped making apps for it months ago, and some have even stopped updating the ones I have.

Great try, Palm, but you needed a follow up fast, and you failed.

Still refuse to go the way of the Apple.

Take a look @ Liz

She is mostly wrong on things, but "she done good!" She was such a cute kid, so sorry she got all muddled up in college.

Link, watch and comment on her video, but don't tell her I sent you.

And don't do it just because she is my sister in law, either.

Remember, don't mention me -- she is coming here next week and I don't want to get beat up (she is brutal).

Gotta go find my asbestos underwear...

(by the way Liz, you have a great sense of humor -- just don't hurt me)
